11 Things You Should Know About Paleo Diet

11 Things You Should Know About Paleo DietThe word 'Paleo' has been derived from former geologic time periods meaning "old" or "ancient". This diet mainly focuses on low 'Carb' plan, high protein and eating meat, vegetables and fruits.

This diet has been effective for the persons who eat mainly meat. High protein content of the foods helps the human body to increase metabolism. The things that a person should know while following this diet are-

1. The main staples of the Paleo diet consists of fruits, oil and fats, fish, meats, fermented foods and raw nuts and seeds.

2. The things to avoid for maintaining this diet includes wheat, grains, dairy products, potatoes, salt etc.
3. The benefits of eating Paleo are that there will be no need of counting calories or carbs or eating on a restricted schedule.

4. The benefits of Paloe diet is unproven and many researchers say that our ancestors ate this diet and didn't have many of the chronic diseases we do, but that doesn't mean the food they ate is the reason why; drawing that conclusion would be like saying we live three times longer than our Paleolithic ancestors because we eat fast food.

5. Going Paleo means giving up modern foods i.e. if one opts for this diet then he has to give up cheese, potatoes, salt and many more modern foods. If one eats Paleo diet then there will be no room for all the modern foods.

6. Paleo diet is not a diet it should be considered as a lifestyle as one should inculcate this diet for the whole life not for a temporary time period. This diet if taken for temporary time then there will be no health benefit for the person who has taken this diet.

7. Paleo diet doesn't mean only eating the listed staples; exercise also play an important part of the live-by-your-genetic-code equation. Even most people who hit the gym regularly won't need to eat that many calories, but the principle of using food as fuel to exercise still stands. One must not forget to do exercise.

8. While the diet as a whole hasn't been well studied, the benefits of cutting packaged foods from regular diet could be huge. According to the Harvard School of Public Health, three quarters of the average American's sodium intake comes from commercially prepared foods. So, by avoiding the processed foods one is able to cut the extra calories and additional nutrients.
9. As Paleo diet includes eating of more meats many people don't realize that they are eating too much meat. Consuming excess protein and not enough carbs can cause kidney damage and also increase your risk of osteoporosis.

10. Paleo eating requires a lot of planning, prep time, and mental resolve. If one fails to maintain the requirements of this diet then this diet will not yield any weight loss.

11.  Following the paleo diet can be pricey. Inexpensive and healthy non-meat protein sources like soy     and beans are off-limits, and a recent BMJ Open study shows that healthy meats like lean  ground beef and boneless, skinless chicken breasts cost an average of 29 cents more per serving  compared to less-healthy ones, such as high-fat ground beef and chicken drumsticks.
